Hi all.
Hope all that went to easter camp had a good time and are well on the way to recovery.

as you know we were unable to do a post camp meal on Sunday so we decided that we will have one on Thursday. We will meet at potters wheel at 7.30 on Thursday. it would be nice to see as many people there as possible. please let us know if you want to come.

Also coffee this week will be tomorrow (Tuesday) between 2-4 in jc's please feel free to come along.

Can we have some volunteers to dry some tents please. or you will have to sleep in yucky mouldy tents next time! and i'm sure you don't want that. Kate will drop them to you. please email us to let us know if you can.

Hello everyone,

You will have received this email if you have paid the deposit for Easter Camp, so hopefully you are intending on coming along.  With the Easter holidays coming up obviously a lot of you will be heading home for a while and when you return it won't be long until we'll be heading off...wooooo!!  So, I just wanted to sort out a few bits and pieces.  First of all I'll need to collect final payments of £15 from you all, so in total the camp will cost you £25.  This covers the cost of everything from transport and food to raft building and Cadbury World :D 

Please can you get the money to me asap.  Cheques (made payable to SUSU) or cash are both fine.  Ideally I would like the money before you leave before the Easter break.  However, if anyone has problems with paying please get in touch as I'm sure we can sort something out and perhaps you can pay when your loan hits your accounts next term. 

If anyone has any questions please give me a shout.

On behalf of myself and the rest of the 2010-2011 Committee I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the new Committee who were elected last night!  After Easter Camp we will be handing our roles to the following people:

  • Jon Lewis - Secretary (Jon will be handing the job over to himself, so let's hope he enjoys his handover meeting!)
  • Kayleigh Pratt - Treasurer
  • Suzie Stephens - Social Secretary

Congratulations to you all and we hope you have an absolutely fantastic year!  Best of luck in your new roles :)

 

Also thanks to all of you who came along and took part in the AGM and voting!  We didn't decide on a new flag, but this will be discussed further in a more informal environment.  An email will be sent to everyone with each of the flags so you can have a proper look at them all!

 

Have a fantastic weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!!  I'll see some of you tomorrow at the minibus at 7am ready to head to Leeds  :D  Hopefully the rest of you next week for coffee on Tuesday and night hike on Thursday (an email will follow with more details on both these events).

Hello everyone,

Hope you have all had a good weekend.  This week is an exciting week in the SSWIGS calendar so please read on!

1. Coffee
First of all we'll be meeting in JCs on Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm for our usual coffee/lunch.  Come along and have a drink or just come along for a chat!

2. AGM - YOU MUST COME!!!
Of course the excitement of the week is the AGM which will be taking place on Thursday at Bryn Road Scout and Guide HQ at 7:30pm.  Come along and have your say on the future of the society!!  Don't miss out...there may even be free biscuits!!  You will already have received an email with nominations that were submitted for President, Secretary and Treasurer which we will be voting upon at the AGM.  However, no one has put themselves forward for the roles of Social Secretary or Publicity.  Swansea University students will be allowed to run for these two positions from the floor, so if you think one of these might be for you then you must come along.  

3. SSWIGS Flag Competition
I'd also like to remind everyone that the closing date for the flag competition is Thursday at midday.  We will then be discussing the entries at the AGM and voting on the design we would like to have created into a flag.  The flag is for general use within the society...national events, freshers' fair, university events, society camps etc etc.  Don't forget the colours of SSWIGS...green, black and white.  Please also find attached a picture of Derek in case you would like to use this in your design.  So far I have only had entries from one person...which is a bit disappointing :(  Please get designing either on paper or on the computer and send your entries to me by midday Thursday.

First of all please remember that the AGM will be taking place next Thursday (24th) at 7:30pm at Bryn Road Scout Hall.  It would be great to see as many members there as possible as this is an extremely important date in the SSWIGS calendar.  Come and have your say about the society and offer any suggestions of how it can be improved or just come along to use your votes!  If you can't come to the AGM, but would like to vote then please remember you can apply for postal votes by contacting Fiona Proudfoot, Returning Officer 2011.  Application for postal votes will close at midday on Thursday 17th!

Also, this is a reminder that nominations for SSWIGS Executive Committee positions 2011-2012 will close on Thursday (17th) at midday.  This is less than 48 hours away, so if you haven't yet sent off your manifesto then do it now!  Being on the committee offers some great experiences and don't forget it's always a great thing to put on your CV.  You'll also have your say in how you'd like to see the society move forward, so don't miss out!   

Don't stand back and regret not putting yourself forward!  All you need is a nominator, a seconder and a short manifesto about why you'd like to do the role and what you could bring to the society. 

Remember all manifestos and postal vote requests should be sent to Fiona Proudfoot, Returning Officer 2011 (check emails for address) by midday on Thursday.

Right, I know it's two weekends time, but I'm excited about the ball, so I thought I'd whizz this email out.  The plan will be to leave uni at around 7am.  I realise this is super early, but we have a long, long way to go, so at least this way we should arrive in time to chill out a bit in the afternoon before the excitement begins.  Kayleigh and Harry we realise that buses may not be an option at this time, but we figured you wouldn't mind an early morning stroll (JOKES).  Sorry, you can stop swearing now because we will arrange for you to be picked up by a lovely person with a car.

The other thing we need to sort is the picnic :D  We thought it would be nice if we all purchased some bits and pieces and shared to make a gourmet picnic for the road trip.  So I think the best plan is to decide who will buy what.  Here are my ideas of what we could have:

  • Sandwiches
  • Savoury goodies (sausage rolls and other bits)
  • Crisps
  • Cakes or other sweet things
  • Fruit
  • Drinks (a small selection)
  • Sweeties (perhaps not for the picnic, but the driver does need these to get places)
Any other suggestions?!  There are nine of us altogether so whatever you buy has to be enough for nine. Obviously some things can be done as two as they are more expensive; my suggestion would be for two to do sandwiches, two to do cakes/sweet things and then two to do drinks and then everyone to bring a selection of sweets (the driver likes a good variety of sweets on road trips!!)  

How does this sound?  Right, now please can you indicate which thing you would like to buy! 

If you don't want to take part in the picnic that is also fine (PARTY POOPER!).  However, don't expect us to share on the day :P

Let me know your thoughts and let's all start getting excited for BALL!!!

Don't forget the Ready Steady Cook social is TONIGHT. Meet outside Fulton House at 7:30pm. If you can let us know if you're coming then we can make sure we wait for you! Also don't forget that coffee is on Friday this week between 12pm and 2pm.

 

2. EASTER CAMP

 Thanks to those of you who have already paid the deposit. This is just a quick reminder for everyone else. Easter Camp will be taking place on the weekend of 6th - 8th May and we'll be heading to a campsite in the Birmingham area. The weekend will be full of activities from raft building to campfires and possibly even a trip to Cadbury World. I need to know numbers though and I need to know in the next couple of days. Please can you let me know if you would like to come and get a deposit to me in the next couple of days. Equally if you know you're not coming please drop me an email then I'll stop bugging you all :P

 

3. AGM AND NOMINATIONS REMINDER

 This is just a quick reminder to you all that the AGM will take place on 24th March at 7:30pm. Please put this date in your diary and come along to use your voting power!! If you know you cannot make the AGM for some reason then please also remember you can apply for a postal vote! Also, don't forget that SSWIGS committee nominations for 2011-2012 are still open and won't be closing until next Thursday (17th) at midday. Get those nominations flying at our Returning Officer!! Any questions on this please do not hesitate to ask!

 

4. Message regarding House of Commons Education Committee - Youth Services

  Hi SSAGO! As part of my work with Girlguiding UK and the British Youth Council (which the TSA also has representation at) we are continually working on the recognition and improvement in general of youth services and participation into existing organisations (ie Guides and Scouts!) The House of Commons Education Committee are therefore currently carrying out an inquiry into youth services and have launched this forum so that young people (13-25) can tell them what activities they do outside of school/work and what they think of them - they specifically mention guiding and scouting in the introduction, which is great as a start for our two organisations. It would be great if you could spend a few minutes responding to the forum and letting the government know of what opportunities we get out of Scouting and Guiding (plus anything else you might partake in too). It's always great to be able to shout out about Guiding and Scouting, and this is a fab stage to be able to do it from! Main social this week - Ready Steady Cook on Tuesday, meet outside Fulton House at 7:30pm
As most of you know are main social is on Tuesday this week and will be a joint social with Cardiff Scout and Guide Society (SSAGS).  The evening will be Ready Steady Cook style and will also involve a pancake cooking session (well it is Shrove Tuesday afterall)! 

The plan is to meet at Fulton House at 7.30pm to walk up to 44th Sketty Scout's hut. If you would like to meet us at the hall, we'll be starting the meeting at 8pm. Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a good weekend!  I just wanted to let you know that Easter Camp has been provisionally booked.  We are off to Blackwell Adventure which is near Birmingham on the weekend of Friday 6th - Sunday 8th May.  Final costs have not yet been confirmed as we will hopefully be sorting some funding out for it.  However, the estimate is that it will be about £25. 

The rough plan at the moment (this is not definite!) is that we will arrive on the Friday evening, set up camp, have some food and a campfire.  Then on Saturday morning we will do an on site activity (yet to be confirmed) such as pioneering, orienteering or an obstacle course.  In the afternoon we will hopefully be having an instructed raft building session and the evening will be once again eating and getting up to whatever we fancy.  Finally on Sunday we will be heading home....possibly via Cadbury World. 

It should be a great weekend, but in order to get things confirmed I need to know definite numbers.  So....if you would like to come please can you get a £10 non-refundable deposit to me by 14th March.  This will confirm you have a place on the amazing camp!  It would also be helpful if you could email to confirm you will definitely be attending.
